Frequently Asked Questions
1-How can I measure myself at home if I can’t come in person?
We’re here to help you find the right fit—even from home! Here’s how you can measure yourself for a post-mastectomy bra:
🪡 What You’ll Need:
A soft measuring tape
A mirror or a helper (optional, but helpful)
A well-fitting, non-padded bra (if you wear one)
📏 Step 1: Measure Your Band Size
Stand straight and wrap the measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, just under your bust.
Make sure the tape is level and not too tight.
Round up to the nearest whole number.
If the number is even, add 4 inches. If it's odd, add 5 inches.
Example: 33" + 5 = Band size 38
📏 Step 2: Measure Your Bust (if applicable)
Wrap the measuring tape loosely around the fullest part of your remaining breast or chest area.
Make sure the tape is level and not compressing the tissue.
➕ Calculate Cup Size (if needed):
Subtract your band size from your bust measurement.
Each inch difference = 1 cup size (A=1", B=2", C=3", etc.)
💡 Special Considerations for Post-Mastectomy Fittings:
If you wear a prosthesis or shaper, we recommend wearing it during measuring. If you haven’t been fitted for a prosthesis yet, no worries—just let us know during your virtual consultation.
2-Do I need an appointment for a fitting?
Yes, we recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure you receive personalized attention in a private and comfortable setting. We also offer virtual fittings and consultations to help you find the perfect fit from home. By appointment only.
3-Are there styles that look more like everyday lingerie but still work with prosthetics?
Yes! You don’t have to sacrifice style for support or function. We carry a thoughtfully curated selection of post-mastectomy bras that look and feel like traditional lingerie—but are specifically designed to hold a prosthesis securely and comfortably.
These styles feature:
Delicate lace, satin, and soft fabrics
Pocketed cups for prosthetics or shapers
Wire-free or soft-wire support for post-surgery comfort
Modern silhouettes like plunge, balconette, bralette, and T-shirt bras
Brands that specialize in feminine, elegant, and functional designs
4-How many bras should I have?
We recommend having at least 3 to 5 well-fitting bras in rotation:
👚 1 to wear
🧺 1 to wash
🗄️ 1 (or more) to rest
This keeps your bras in better shape and gives your body comfort and flexibility throughout the week.
5-Do you carry wire-free or front-closure bras?
Yes, we do! At Cherished Bra Gallery, comfort and accessibility are top priorities—especially for those recovering from surgery or managing long-term wear needs.
🧵 Wire-Free Bras
We carry a wide selection of wire-free bras that still offer excellent support and shape. These are ideal for:
Post-mastectomy or lumpectomy wear
Sensitive scar tissue or tender areas
Everyday comfort without compromise
🔗 Front-Closure Bras
We also offer front-closure bras, which are easier to put on and take off—especially if you:
Have limited range of motion
Are recovering from recent surgery
Prefer a smooth back for comfort or under clothing
You’ll find styles ranging from soft-cup sleep bras to supportive everyday and active bras, all with pocketed designs to securely hold a prosthesis or shaper if needed.
